Used for This funding will be used to support a homelessness prevention program for seniors who are at risk of losing housing and entering homelessness in Humboldt County, California. Funding will be used to provide emergency assistance for unpaid rent and/or utilities to stabilize housing for seniors identified in a local senior housing complex.
Benefits Senior adults have spent a lifetime contributing to our society and often face poverty and housing insecurity in their old age. The co-occurrence of health issues and general physical weakness combined with this housing insecurity puts our community’s seniors at particular risk of harm or even death. This funding will help Arcata House Partnership ensure that those seniors in Humboldt County, California who are identified as being at imminent risk of homelessness will not lose their housing and will remain safe.
Proposal Description

Arcata House Partnership has a collaborative relationship with the housing management at Lazy J Mobile Home Park and the City of Arcata Office of Community Development  and is able to receive notification when a senior living in that development is at risk of entering homelessness due to unpaid rent or utilities.  When Arcata House Partnership gets this notification, funding will be provided to ensure that the senior remains in their home.  Arcata House Partnership will assign a case manager to resolve the financial issue.  This case manager will then provide linkage for the senior to area resources and stabilize the senior further by coordinating wraparound care.  These efforts to avoid homelessness will prevent trauma and other harm for the senior.  They will also prevent a further burden of need on the already significantly overtaxed homeless services system in Humboldt County, California, which is the area that has the highest per capita rate of unsheltered homelessness in the country.
