The funds would benefit the patients awaiting fistula repair surgery at Mercer Catholic Women's Center Fistula Unit. Each surgery costs approximately $700, which covers comprehensive pre- and post-operative care, laboratory tests, the surgical repair itself, post-operative care, and transportation for patients returning home. The Beauty of Afrikan Sisterhood started Life after Fistula. We have been able to award some patients $100 to start a business or a trade. To achieve those results, I visit the hospital about 3 times a year and give the funds directly to the patients. We cover the transportation for the patients to travel to receive their reward. The grant money will also be used to help ship adult diapers and other supplies to the center. TBAS has had a relationship with the fistula center for the last four years. Earlier this year TBAS purchased the appliances for the new kitchen for the center. The women are able to have home cooked meals while awaiting for treatment.
