Grant Description
Description

Rez Vet is dedicated to providing free/low-cost essential veterinary care to underserved Native American reservations, particularly within the Navajo Nation, which spans parts of New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. In this vast and remote area, access to veterinary care is extremely limited, with only two veterinarians to serve a region larger than West Virginia. The poverty level is 38%, and one third of households lack access to basic utilities like running water or electricity. Additionally, only one in six residents has access to a working vehicle, making it difficult for pet families to access necessary medical care for their pets.

Rez Vet works closely with the Navajo Nation government, who shares with us the communities and contact information for community leaders where our services are most needed. We then travel to those areas and host three-day clinics in community chapter houses. Over the course of three days, Rez Vet will provide hundreds of beloved pets with life-saving vaccines; we treat illnesses and injuries, perform laceration repairs and other surgeries, preventative care, and other medical treatments. By reducing barriers to care, we keep pets healthy, reduce the spread of disease, ultimately supporting the human-animal bond in the communities we serve.

We do ask for a $20 administrative fee per pet to help us cover the costs of our clinics, but no client is ever turned away if they are unable to pay that. We do not charge for vaccines or medical treatment of a sick or injured pet.

This grant money will be used to support our clinics through the purchase of veterinary supplies and equipment. Nobody on the Rez Vet team receives a salary, so every dollar goes to support saving lives at our monthly clinics. We believe in transparency and pride ourselves on being excellent grant partners who celebrate the organizations that make our work possible.

Used for We are seeking funding for our free/low-cost, monthly mobile veterinary clinics on the Navajo Nation. The grant money, if awarded, will purchase medical supplies and equipment to fund monthly three day clinics in some of the most underserved communities in the country.
Benefits On the Navajo Nation, which is an area the size of West Virginia, there are only two veterinarians who provide care for companion animals. For many of the residents there, access to veterinary care is non-existent. Our monthly mobile clinics allow us to travel to the areas of the Navajo Nation where we are needed most, providing life-saving vaccines and veterinary care to dogs and cats who otherwise would go without.
