| Description | Who Will BenefitThe borehole will directly benefit more than 500 adolescents who participate annually in Rachel’s Refuge programs, with special emphasis on adolescent girls in Siaya County, Kenya. Their families, staff, and surrounding community members will also gain reliable access to clean water, improving health and reducing the time girls spend fetching water, which often keeps them out of school. How Results Will Be AchievedBy installing a borehole and water storage system at Rachel’s Refuge, the center will ensure a safe, consistent supply of clean water for camps, mentorship sessions, and day-to-day learning activities. This resource will support improved hygiene, reduce illness, and allow participants—especially girls—to focus on education, leadership, and life skills. Community access to water will also strengthen local resilience and promote dignity. How the Grant Money Will Be UsedGrant funds will cover the full cost of drilling and equipping the borehole, installing a pump, water storage tanks, and piping, and training staff in basic maintenance. These investments will create a sustainable water source that safeguards health, supports uninterrupted participation in Rachel’s Refuge programs, and models how addressing basic needs can open pathways to education, opportunity, and long-term wellbeing. |
