| Description | The Attune project is a free sound art experience designed to connect communities across Los Angeles County through multi-city participation at over twenty sites. This initiative aims to address the community's need for unity and healing following the traumatic events of 2025, such as the LA Fires and civic disruptions, by using sound and frequency to promote well-being. The grant will be used to support the creation of a neuroscience and academia-backed sound piece, enhance live sound components, and engage local and tribal artists to create a diverse and inclusive sound journey. Some of the locations include Hansen Dam, Altadena, Long Beach, Debs Park, and Sepulveda Basin. Curated confirmed artists are Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Beatie Wolfe, Carmina Escobar, Claire Rousay, L. Frank Manriquez, Odeya Nini, Qur'an Shaheed, and Sarah Rara.
This project will achieve a collective change of the current narrative and amplify a positive trajectory. It’s meant to meet people where they are at by activating twenty sites within a large area, and bring them an experience that promotes wellness equally. We will achieve this by ensuring that all sites have a curator who is aligned with the demographic of each area, focusing on accessibility for all, conducting sample size studies for feedback, and utilizing our marketing partners, such as KCRW and Ciclavia, to reach the largest number of people possible. Funds from the Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation will support the implementation of a portion of a community site and the costs associated with it. | Benefits | NXT Art is responding to the current distress of the World by creating a modular sound healing and connecting experience in a “We Are The World” moment. This first iteration is one of many that will start with 20 sites and expand modularly in the future years. Artists are creating sound art compositions with the assistance of neuroscientific tools to ensure the pieces created have a calming and de-stressing effect for all attendees. |
