| Description | The BRCHub Food Access & Distribution Program is a new, disability-centered food security initiative designed to serve individuals with visible and invisible disabilities, their caregivers, and families in Clark County. Our program operates from a central hub at the Bridgeview Resource Center, where participants can access fresh produce, pantry staples, and culturally responsive foods through regular, fully accessible distributions. For those unable to travel, we provide limited last-mile delivery routes, ensuring that residents with mobility, sensory, or transportation barriers can still receive food. This program is intentionally accessible by design: large-print and braille labels, sensory-friendly distribution windows, wheelchair-accessible spaces, and plain-language instructions are integrated at every stage. We collaborate with trusted partners—including East West Food Rescue, Clark County Food Bank, and local organizations like The Foundation, Socialytes NW, and Harvest Haven—to source food and reach families efficiently. Funding from this grant will be used specifically to cover logistics (fuel, van use/lease, and insurance) and accessibility adaptations (labels, braille, plain-language tech software), which together are budgeted at $20,000 annually. A $5,000 grant will ensure at least three months of fully accessible operations, reaching an estimated 200 households, while building a long-term framework for sustainable, inclusive food distribution. By focusing on individuals with disabilities and their caregivers—populations often overlooked in mainstream hunger relief efforts—this initiative directly addresses inequity, reduces isolation, and promotes dignity and well-being in our community. |
| Used for | This grant will support the launch and operation of the BRCHub Food Access & Distribution Program, a dedicated initiative to reduce food insecurity for people with disabilities and their caregivers in Clark County. Funds will directly offset logistics costs such as fuel, insurance, and accessible adaptations (large-print/braille labels, sensory-friendly distribution materials) to ensure equitable participation. By strengthening last-mile delivery routes and ensuring accessibility at distribution sites, this funding will help us reach households who are otherwise excluded from traditional food supports. |
| Benefits | Food security is a basic human right, and ensuring that individuals with disabilities can access healthy, culturally responsive food reduces health disparities and strengthens families. By removing barriers to transportation, communication, and accessibility, this program demonstrates an inclusive model that can be replicated in other communities. Supporting this initiative builds a world where no one is left behind in the fight against hunger. |
