Based on data tracked by our partners at Tacoma Pierce County Health Department https://tpchd.org/topics/health-advisory-pertussis-increasing-in-washington/ and epidemiological data shared with us by the Department of Health (DoH), pertussis disproportionately affects Ukrainian and Russian speaking immigrants and refugees. Our organization has statement and reputation as a trusted stakeholder in the community and with our team of Ukrainian health experts, we plan to provide culturally and linguistically relevant outreach and education about current issue to our community in order to prevent morbidity and mortality for this population.
Benefits Culturally and linguistically appropriate education and health services have been shown to increase knowledge and engagement of vulnerable communities in their health care. By educating Ukrainian and Russian speaking community about the risks of pertussis disease and about how to prevent this from happening, We will be protecting our target community as well as the greater community at larger from contagious disease outbreaks, morbidity and mortality.
