Used for The Salvation Army is a safety net for the entire community. In 2019 under normal circumstances, we served 9,328 individuals (including over 3,000 children) with 140,906 meals, 46,808 nights of lodging, and thousands of other with supportive services. In 2020 during the pandemic, we continue to have heightened requests for food pantry and rental assistance so that people may remain in their current homes or be rehoused if they are homeless.
Benefits The goal is to provide basic human needs of food, shelter and supportive services designed to stabilize the client's physical, psychological and financial situation and ultimately assist them with permanent housing while enhancing their skills and resources to remain independent.
Proposal Description Who will benefit?
The Salvation Army serves individuals and families with incomes of less than $15,000 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

What will you do to achieve results?
In 2020, The Salvation Army is serving families and individuals that are experiencing the economic ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The enormous demand is outstripping our resources. The demand for our services has grown exponentially especially food pantry and rental assistance. Underwritten in part by City of Corpus Christi funding, these two services allow individuals and families to remain safely in their homes. Additionally, we have remained vigilant in adhering to CDC guidelines and intake screening. We are proud to report that, to date, we have not had a single COVID-19 positive individual in our shelter.

In FY2020 (YE 9-30-20), we served/provided:
* Individuals Assisted with Financial Assistance for Housing 1,538 (+19.5%since previous year)
* Individuals Assisted with Fulfillment of Employment 689 (-2.2% since previous year)
* Individuals Receiving Material Assistance (Food, Clothes, Supplies, etc.) 11,020 (+50.8% since
previous year)
* Nights of Lodging Provided 94,790 (+49% since previous year)
* Total Individuals Served 14,442 (+31% since previous year)

Unlike other providers, The Salvation Army assigns a case manager to each housing client. Meeting regularly with the case manager, each client identifies their individual needs and barriers to success. Together, they develop an action plan to move them from homelessness and helplessness to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. By treating the whole person, The Salvation Army's wide array of programs and services (cafeteria, emergency shelter, transitional housing, clothing, counseling, GED, spiritual counseling, life skills and referrals to medical, child care, employment services, substance abuse treatment) enables clients to have a much greater chance of success than in other stand-alone programs. Additional services are available through the local continuum of care by means of referral. We are open 24/7, 365 days a year. Additionally, The Salvation Army is the only local shelter program that allows the fathers to stay with the family in a shelter situation and the only agency to operate a mobile feeding unit.

The designated Texas Homeless Network Coordinated Entry Point for the Coastal Bend, The Salvation Army actively networks with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the Texas Homeless Network, members of the Homeless Issues Partnership, the Emergency Aid Coalition, the United Way and the City of Corpus Christi to best serve our clients.

How grant money will be used?
A gift of $5,000 from the Dudley Dougherty Foundation will help to underwrite the cost of serving approximately 2,500 meals to those in need. Together, we can face the struggles of today in anticipation of a bright tomorrow.
