Additional Information
Used for The money from the grant will be used to help reviatlize our facility. This includes getting new flooring and mirrors for our dance studios and the money will also help to purchase more instruments for our students and renew all of our music rooms. The grant money will also go to purchasing PPE equipment for our facility and staff which is needed in these current times.
Benefits The benefits of receiving this money will allow more students in the community to study at our facility. Having an up to date facility where children can hone in on their artistic talents in the most efficient way is necessary for the development of a child. Also providing a space which follows CDC guidelines during this pandemic is an additional benefit for parents to allow their children to work under our supervision in a safe/healthy way.
Proposal Description The grant that we hope to receive is for the complete revitalization of our facility and any additional money will be allocated to our scholarship fund for new students. The Brooklyn Center for the Arts specializes in providing access to classical art forms for the underprivileged youth of New York City. Our arts programs include students between the ages of 3-18 of various ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. A majority of our students are public school students of color who are of low economic status. To increase enrollment in our arts program from around the community we need to bring our facility to meet the needs of young talented students. For all our dance studios we are in need of Marley flooring. Marley flooring allows for dancers to move freely in the space without being hindered by a slippery or an unsprung floor. An unsprung floor increases the likelihood of injuries for the students if they were to jump in class which a major component of dance classes. Also the purchase of mirrors is essential for our dance studios. For the various genres of classes we present to our students, mirrors are always utilized. Having mirrors in all of our dance studios allow for smoother instruction and demonstration by the teachers and it allows for students to correct themselves while executing various movements. As we are trying to increase enrollment of our program that means we will need more instruments for our students. Since we are trying to provide access to classical art forms we need a variety of instruments to give out to our students so they can progress in their instrumental studies. As we are also in the midst of a world pandemic our facility has to meet the standards/guidelines of the Center for Disease Control. We are in need of PPE equipment and materials needed to make our facility a safe/healthy environment. Having a facility that meets our states health guidelines allows for parents to feel completely comfortable with having their children participate in our arts program. This will lead to higher enrollment of underprivileged students. Any additional money left over from this grant will be used for our scholarship fund. Our scholarship fund is essential for students who are in dire financial need and posseses an interest in the classical arts. Ultimately this grant will help evolve the community influence of Brooklyn Center for the Arts.
