Additional Information
Used for We will use the money for our holistic programming for young adults by paying the facilitators and leaders of our movement (yoga) and peer-to-peer support groups.
Benefits Our program initially will benefit struggling young adults who are located close to our location. However, ultimately, Garrett Space is planning to have it's model programming replicated nationally as the need for a Garrett's Space option exists across the country and not just in the State of Michigan.
Proposal Description Young adults with significant mental health challenges often feel that they are facing unique and insurmountable challenges. Garrett's Space's mental health wellness program will give preference to young adults who have recently been discharged from a psychiatric hospital setting.
The rate of suicide of individuals of all ages is the highest after treatment and discharge from a psychiatric hospital setting. See https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/WhctKJVjMccJbwQvFdBlHJsqxPLLzPNnFvZvbWqLKXSwgBXcBzvTVkLcskZpKhmsMFJTTJq. Our participants will be referred to our program by local psychiatric hospitals.

In addition to continuing to see their regular therapist, our program participants (ages 18-28) will meet two to three days a week for peer-to-peer support, a movement class and a social get together. Most importantly this program and the connections it will foster will help these young adults to (i) feel supported and (ii) see that they’re not alone in their struggles.

Our groups will be led by paid professional facilitators, including movement instructors and social workers. Each group which will be comprised of 6 to 10 young adults. We plan to launch our first group in March of 2020.

The grant money will be used to pay our group facilitators.
