Grant Description
Description	PDAP aims to ease the suffering and alienation of young people affected by substance abuse and its devastating effects. Built on a non-denominational spiritual foundation, PDAP is a fellowship of young people and their parents who share their experience, love, and understanding, so that they may solve their common problems and help them recover from the effects of mind changing chemicals. PDAP is committed to providing free services to teenagers and young adults, who have a desire to live a chemical-free life. With emphasis on peer support and encouragement, PDAP offers weekly 12-step based groups for young people, ages 13-25, and their parents, individual and family counseling sessions with a licensed chemical dependency counselor, and supervised social activities. Specifically the grant money awarded by your foundation will be used for the supervised social activities part of the program, to meet the challenge of helping young clients to develop healthy peer influences, while also building valuable social capital. Funding is needed for 20 participants for activities spanning 6 months. Some examples of these activities include hiking, laser tag, bowling, zip-lining, and rollerskating.
Used for	Grateful for past support from the Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation, Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) will continue to offer free group activities to its young participants, who benefit from learning how to have fun without the use of drugs, while also reintegrating into normal society. The Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation's monetary contribution would be used for the activity costs for social activities for the youth served in our program.
Benefits	PDAP sets a foundation of hope that extends into the greater community by supporting young people and their families to recover and heal from the detriments of substance abuse. Abstinence from substances, a renewal of relationships, and normalizing activities are components of the PDAP program. These positive actions benefit increased stability, happiness, and serenity for those served by PDAP, creating more productive citizens whose experience can be shared with others struggling with substance abuse.
