| Description | The Charlton School is a Residential Treatment Center and Special Education school for emotionally troubled and educationally disadvantaged adolescent girls. The girls are referred to The Charlton School from local County Department of Social Services, as well as from public school districts throughout the eastern part of New York State. The students live and go to school at Charlton for an average of one year while they and their families work on behavioral, emotional, and academic challenges. |
| Used for | We would like to build an indoor riding arena in order to allow The Charlton School Equine Riding Program to operate throughout the year. |
| Benefits | We have observed that students have improved their social, academic and emotional skills, as well as their overall confidence and self esteem after participating in this program. Our ultimate goal, and one that the equine program is vital to achieving, is to give our damaged and disadvantaged adolescent girls a chance to become happy, productive and contributing members of society. |
