The grant will be used to provide 55 surgeries at the Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children (HRDC) in Nepal. HRDC is the only children’s orthopedic hospital in Nepal and without it thousands of poor children with physical disabilities would suffer: Nepal is a country with many mountains and few roads, and most people still live in villages and farm the land. A non-mobile child cannot walk to school, work productively for the family and likely not receive the care they need to become functional adults. HRDC’s surgical staff is trained at an international level and delivers expert orthopedic care for children. The grant would be used to pay directly for child surgery and associated medical expenses (lab work, prosthesis, etc.) and would not be used for any administrative or executive costs. In addition to changing the lives of their individual patients, HRDC is also changing how the disabled are seen in their communities by giving them second chances with life. |
