The Palmer Drug Abuse Program was founded Corpus Christi, TX in 1980 and has become a viable force in the fight against drug and alcohol dependency and addiction in the Coastal Bend area under the guidance of a trained and dedicated staff. PDAP is headquartered in Corpus Christi, Texas with satellite offices in Kingsville and Alice.

We are currently seeking additional funding for operating costs, projects and general purposes. PDAP is the ONLY agency in the Coastal Bend that has an intervention and prevention program for youngsters under 18 years of age. PDAP is entirely FREE to all, with the vast majority of our clients having low to NO income and NO insurance. Therefore, PDAP’s entire budget depends on donations from foundations, industry, business, individuals, and PDAP’s annual fund drive, along with several fund-raisers throughout the year.

PDAP offers free 12-step support group services for teenagers (ages 12 to 17) and adults who express a desire to find an alternative to drug and alcohol use; and for the parents who seek solutions to family and personal conflicts arising from drug or alcohol use by a family member. PDAP also has a preventative program (Pee Wees-ages 5-12).

Success is determined one person at a time, one day at a time. Recovery is a day-by-day, sometimes minute-by-minute process, and a life-long commitment. Our members need to know that we are here to minister and love them twenty-four hours a day, every day of the week, all year long. Through our weekly staffing meetings and by tracking monthly demographics, we are able to determine how the individual groups (Younger, Older, Parent and Pee Wee) are doing and deal immediately with any issues that may arise. Specifically, we track how many times a member has been to a meeting during a month and how many have received their 30 day or one year fist in any given time frame. The weekly staff meetings are held to determine how the groups are doing and to create awareness of the areas of strengths and weakness so that those areas can be dealt with immediately to insure the success of our programs.

Working in three different cities (Corpus Christi, Kingsville and Alice), PDAP’s impact is widespread in the Coastal Bend. In 2012, PDAP worked with 4,843 individuals, conducted 4,970 twelve step appointments, and maintained a monthly attendance of 1,087 teenagers, young adults, parents and pee wee’s. PDAP’s staff also conducted recovery and growth workshops and retreats, provided recreational activities for all participants as well as presented numerous educational talks about the positive message of drug-free living to over 6,063 young people, parents and teachers in our area schools. The numbers may fluctuate, but the reality remains the same-drug abuse and alcoholism are an unfortunate part of our teens and young folks’ lives. In fact, some of our clients deny they have a problem right up to the day they die. |
