The Butterfly Project benefits 65 girls ages 13-18 who are victims of female genital mutilation, child marriage, tribal war and extreme poverty who live in poor, remote villages in Kenya. Each project participant is rescued from the conditions they desperately seek to escape. Project beneficiaries were identified and accepted based on level of need. Often girls are found hiding in churches, police stations, and homes of well-wishers. Once the girl is rescued she is brought to the I CAN FLY High School in Machakos, Kenya.

The Butterfly project benefits girls by offering free education, food, security, enrichment activities and life-skills to achieve our goal of helping girls become self-sustaining citizens. The free education gives each participant the freedom to learn and complete their secondary education and college education without interruption from child marriage, early pregnancies and extreme poverty.

The grant money will be used to continue offering girls the services needed to continue their education. In addition to providing free education, The Butterfly Project offers room & board, food, enrichment activities, counseling and life-skills which helps us achieve our goals that will ultimately help them break generational cultural patterns that have deprived them of their basic rights.

The grant for $3,000 will be used as follows:

Food Program: $1,800 feeds 65 girls lunch and dinner for 6 weeks
Clean Water: $800 provides 65 girls 10,000 liter per week of water for 2 months
Generator fuel: $400 provides lighting at night for classrooms and dormitory for 8 weeks
|
