During the Spring of 2014, The Texas Baroque Ensemble will be traveling to various locations in Texas to perform Messiah, by G. F. Handel. Two of these concerts, specifically one in San Antonio and another in Beeville, will be fundraisers for two hospitals. The performance at The Chapel of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, will be focusing on the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. The event in Beeville will reach out in a more national and international scope and emphasize and Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Board of The Texas Baroque Ensemble believes this to be a fitting endeavour given the history of the Oratorio Messiah. When it was composed in 1741, Handel, for all practical purposes, gave the piece to London’s Foundling Hospital, and instituted yearly performances of the work around the Easter Season of 1750 to benefit the Hospital.

The Funds received by The Texas Baroque Ensemble will primarily be used to fund the Beeville performance at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. In this way, all funds collected during the concert can then be given directly to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, while ensuring that the performing musicians are paid their salaries, and therefore cover the bulk of the cost for such an event.
|
