| Used for | If the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs were to receive grant funding, we would use the money to support and expand our Steiner Scholarship program which began in the spring of 2011. The money would be used to maintain the scholarship for our current recipient while providing the opportunity for a second minority student from a financially disadvantaged background to attend the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs for the 2012-2013 school year. The Steiner Scholarship was established by an alumni parent and a current parent who shared a strong desire to see the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs attract students from traditionally minority backgrounds. |
| Benefits | At the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs, we care deeply about honoring our “accessible to all commitment” within our local community. The Steiner Scholarship makes it possible for a minority student from a family with minimal financial resources to attend the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs for 3 years; grades 6, 7 and 8. Feedback from the parent and student benefitting from our first ever minority scholarship has shown us that this program has significantly improved the quality of their lives. The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs holds the belief that through education, we can work to improve the world one child at a time. |
| Proposal Description | The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs, located in upstate New York, is an independent, co-educational school founded in 1981. We serve students Preschool through Twelfth Grade and have a total enrollment of approximately 250 students. The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs is not-for-profit with admission open to all qualified students regardless of race, creed, sex or color. We strive to enrich every student’s capacity for imagination and inspire a life-long love for learning and reverence for life. Our goal is to educate so that our graduates are confident and eager to enter a life of individual initiative and social responsibility. Waldorf education has as its foundation the work of Rudolph Steiner who held deeply to the belief that education should be accessible to all. |
