Additional Information
Used for PDAP will efficiently use $12,500 for the purpose of educating, encouraging and mentoring young people aged 11-17 towards a healthier lifestyle as it directly relates to overcoming substance abuse problems. These funds will be applied directly to sober events for youth ($2,500) transportation costs to and from sober events and alternate peer group meetings ($3,000), and staffing of events and meetings ($7,000).
Benefits Palmer Drug Abuse Program has a 40 year track record of saving lives in Texas and is dedicated to encouraging, teaching and mentoring young people who have identified a problem in their lives with drug and alcohol use. Our goal is to help these young people to live a healthy substance free lifestyle through working a 12 step program, by being a part of a healthy peer group, and learning the negative health aspects of substance abuse. PDAP has served over 10,000 families in Austin and provides over 500 free group meetings and comprehensive support for teens, adolescents, and their parents.
Proposal Description PDAP services at-risk and lower socio economic teens and adolescents. With use of these funds, we hope to expand the number and effectiveness of our sober events and group meetings by providing more staff supervision and mentoring and a greater range of events and retreats. By exposing teens and adolescents to a wider range of events where sobriety can be fun, we normalize these activities for the teens. Every day and every activity becomes more enjoyable without the use of drugs and alcohol.

PDAP’s $12,500 request will be broken down into the following categories to serve Austin area youth:

Sober events for 250 youth ages, 11-17 $2,500.
Transportation for 250 teens and families to meetings and events $3,000.
Staffing of sober meetings and events for 250 youth $7,000.

Total: $12,500.
