Grant Description
Description In 1975, Mount St. Mary’s College became a pioneer in the leadership education field with the creation of the Women’s Leadership Program, the oldest such program west of the Mississippi. What began as a simple seminar has evolved into a core multidisciplinary curriculum and program that significantly enhances students’ social, communication, and team building skills - all essential qualities for effective leadership in the 21st century.

Attached is a full report on the December 2010 gift of $5,000 and a proposal for a renewal grant. We remain deeply grateful to the Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation for your leading support of the Women’s Leadership Program, and hope that you will once again consider a grant of $10,000. Your continued support would truly affirm our students’ commitment to serving as social change agents in the greater community by encouraging leadership and active civic participation at the local, national, and global levels.
Used for The Women’s Leadership Program is an integral part of the educational opportunities offered at Mount St. Mary’s College (MSMC) because it provides our students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills that empower them to experience academic, personal, and professional success. A grant of $10,000 from the Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation would continue to provide essential support to the Women’s Leadership Program’s core activities, particularly our students’ participation in the Public Leadership Education Network and the Leadership Scholars. We are grateful for the Foundation’s past support of the College and hope you will once again consider this request.
Benefits Short (three sentence) description of how the money will benefit the world. In an increasingly interconnected environment, MSMC is committed to not only providing young women with access to local leadership opportunities, but preparing them to be successful 21st century global citizen-leaders. The Women’s Leadership Program supports this goal by enhancing our students’ personal leadership qualities with professional skills to complement their liberal arts education. Our students graduate committed to using their knowledge to better themselves, their environments, and the world.
