Charity League, organized in 1934, is a unique charitable organization in the Corpus Christi area made up of 40 women. Each year in August we accept applications from various area organizations that are in need of help with a specific improvement. We do not help organizations with operating expenses. After choosing the recipient each year, we request funds from foundations, local businesses, family and friends. One hundred percent of funds raised goes to the selected charity. Last year we raised $195,060 for the Ark Assessment Center and Emercency Shelter for Youth to build a new building to house more children that have been abused or neglected.<br/>This year Mission of Mercy is our fundraising campaign recipient. As mentioned above, they are asking for our help to purchase a new RV to use as a mobile health clinic. The current RV is at the end of its life and is becoming very costly to repair. The passionate doctors, nurses, and volunteers at M.O.M. want to provide the best healthcare possible with professionalism and dignity. They currently offer healthcare services in Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Robstown, Orange Grove, and Bishop. They turn no one down. The uninsured and underinsured working poor are the primary patients they serve. They will see patients as often as necessary on an ongoing basis. Demographics of their patients include: 62% female, 31% male, 5% children, 80% are minority, 96% are completely uninsured, and 80% of them are employed. These are the people that fall in the cracks and do not qualify for government assistance. <br/>The volunteers share God's love in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. <br/>This new unit would also allow M.O.M. to grow and serve our community three to four days a week, rather than the two days they currently operate.<br/>Our fundraising campaign is specifically to raise money for the new mobile unit. I know that you have helped M.O.M. in the past, and we hope that you will consider helping with this new RV so that they can continue to serve our community. |
